Many media players have user written plugins that interface with the Web2.0 website Last.FM, a social media website that allows you to submit the tracks that you have listened to and make suggestions for other artists that you might also like.

The most useful feature is the “Virtual Radio Station” in which you type in an artist you like and then a playlist is created and you are streamed full tracks of similar artists. There is no pressure to buy tracks via Last.Fm (although there is the option) and you can use it to find up and coming artists.

For example I was listening to Katy Perry via the player and found Charlotte Sometimes, which I really enjoy.
